A boring deploy pipeline

FIELD NOTE№ 011Studio D&M15 Sep 2025▲

Deploys should be the least exciting part of your week. Here's the unremarkable pipeline we run on every project.

A good deploy pipeline is one nobody thinks about. Ours is deliberately dull: push to main, CI runs, a green build ships. No ceremony, no deploy captain, no held breath.

  • Trunk-based. Short-lived branches, frequent merges, no long-running drift.
  • One command to roll back. If recovery is fast, mistakes are cheap.
  • Migrations gated and reversible. The scary part gets the most guardrails.
If your deploys are exciting, something has gone wrong upstream of the deploy.

The goal is to make shipping so boring that we do it constantly. Weekly cadence only works if the act of shipping costs nothing.
